A Letter from the Owner

Hello Prospective Gamers:

For years, I have watched the venue of online gaming evolve from creating your own chat room on messengers, using chat rooms on sites from AOL and other online services, Using forums, blogs, Mucks and Muds and finally full fledged sites on their own spaces and servers. During this change I have noticed one trend, where the people go, the action goes. The one thing this has left, is disconcerted players all over the playing spectrum that do not have a stationary site that not only listens to some general ideas, but is not in danger of going anywhere.

Now some of you are saying “but you were closed for 6 months here, 3 months there” that wasn’t true. People could still play on Electricring Sites, but simply did not advance with an admin. I started out over 10 years ago on one of the AOL sites playing a vampire I still play today. The site was called Rhydin, and I played a tremere named Kitala Karentisch Nytefyer. From there I tried other mucks and muds’, creating my own chat rooms with others on AOL. Some of which was an early London by Night, and Amityville. I created some in Messenger Chats, then found someone else’s site by the name of FIH; a site called Darkrelic, and the city it choose for White Wolf was Salt Lake City. I was enthralled, enchanted, and so far out of my element that my first 3 characters died in one scene. I then realized that the individual sites took the tabletop game and adapted it the best they could online.

I learned the system all over again, as many good players do. I was in turmoil when people left and moved on, new people arrived with different ideas, formats and eventually a different prospective on the game. From there I tried being the Vampire Assistant Admin by helping out a friend of mine - Tess, then admin myself when she left. I then was fueled as a player with the thought of the game I wanted to create being curtailed so to speak by one person’s opinion only. I moved with a group of players and created Hawaii by Night

Hawaii was doomed 3 out of 4 systems by the conjectures of others. Although we tried, we could not make a unified owner base. I ended up with the site when other owners abandoned it completely and ran it with a slight vampire game, booming shifter game, and a borderline floating mage game and a technical guru that wouldn’t complete a project unless it was profitable in some way for him. At the time I hated mage… yes hard to believe I hated a system but I did. After the mage game died due to my own lack of attention, and the vampire game was betrayed by the admin for another site (taking everyone with it) my shifter players were left with nowhere to play and a character I loved, Galiee.  I took those players that were still loyal, an admin with a good flair for web design – Kel, and made Electricring.com. I made a game in the last place anyone would think, in hopes of using the borders to further the vampire system, Great Falls, Mt.

The hope was to make a gaming ring where like sites with their own owners could advertise off each other, work with each other in blogs and forum posts, and keep track of the trends as well as my most important goal – Make the players feel welcome somewhere safe. I had help from my long time Website admin Wolfsinger. Unfortunately after a short time the Shifter Admin, a great guy that went by Whitemane, had personal issues that took him offline and the game was left with about 10 players. Those players I am honored to say, mostly stayed with me through my own personal trials and stuck with the site because they felt safe.

Another friend of mine, Forgotten, got me back into playing on Philly by Night, and I met a new round of players including Obs. I also discovered new sites such as London (Justnoctis) and Chicago. These sites are great in their own right, but unfortunately not a style I can play with. I also met some older friends from other sites and realized, they were back in the same problem, unresponsive admins and ever changing tactics. People lost characters right and left, were not included in some of the play if not all of it, and new storyline ideas and happenings from players were discarded by some admins for their own agenda. I went back to my Electricring.com and helped those that were still playing or looking to play; redesign Great Falls to get things going again. I also found old friends Kermode, and Aragon.

Since then I have realized a few things, 1- nobody knows a whole system not even if they think they slept with its creators. 2- The players are definitely people but even though you have admins, the players have to feel like they are respected on the same level; no matter the genre. 3- The concept of the golden rule in White Wolf Gaming could take on new meanings with the literature and fiction that have came out in the last few years. White Wolf redesigned the OWOD and then came out with NWOD. That left players like me antiques, obsolete, and bored. Then the best thing in my favor happened, my personal life straightened out (moved in with a fantastic guy) and Darkrelic took down Salt Lake. I have lived in Utah most of my life, and although I traveled almost every state in the country; I had a passion for wanting to see Salt Lake done even better then the many owners of past. Then we also gained the help of a second Web Creation Admin, MoonStar.

Now, Electricring is hopefully in for a long awaited and better change that will affect those who have been loyal for the long years, and will entice others to come and join in our fun. With Wolfsinger and MoonStar’s help, the site is in for a facial that is new in most elements. It is graphics intensive with an eye to those who feel as out of their element as I did when I first played on Darkrelic.net.  It has simple steps that will make the rp community feel welcome.

1- The ability to log into the site once for gallery, forums and the site instead of many, many times.

2- The ability to see who is on the site even if they are not in the chat rooms.

3- The chance to see their characters not only in important news and gallery, but part of the graphics structure of the city it’s hosting.

4- The ability to submit letters or stories to the newspapers, radio and TV that impact their characters or the site background.

5- Once other sites join, the ability to transfer for short periods of time from one site to another in hopes of advancing your character without complete fictional creativity gearing your xp.

6- The ability to play vital roles in the community, or storylines without making different characters (npc database)

Although it does not have the new features some other sites do such as instant logging, and chat modifications, you have the ability to request a chat log from any staff member on site, as well as input into the structures of the rooms. We are also looking to upgrade our chat if there is one that is not only compatable for game but easy for our players to handle in their browsers. Players are encouraged to create permanent rooms, news, and features that make the site more interactive. With 2 sites planned, 3 in the works and 2 outside sites wanting to advertise; it looks to be possible to build a community of us poor suckers who drain our time on the pc instead of the blood our characters craveLaughing.  We have a mage admin that keeps players here long after they create their own sites or lead somewhere else and hope to add more of Aragon’s caliber in the other systems offered.

So welcome to Electricring.com. Please feel free to glance at our sites, browse or talk to our people, and hopefully have the chance to experience what the players here already have – unbridled possibilities.  Sincerely,
